My Journey to Change

I wanted to be a nurse since I was five years old, and I never truly wavered from that goal. I became a nurse and practiced for ten years. However, I eventually realized that something wasn’t right, and I needed to change careers. This decision was incredibly difficult because it meant giving up my identity and the aspirations I had held since childhood.

One piece of advice that someone once gave me was to never let your education hold you back. Often, people think that because they trained as a nurse, they must remain in that field. I’m living proof that you can make a complete change and try something new. It just takes a bit of extra work, faith, and the right support, and Alma was one of the right people in my corner who helped me succeed.

Navigating the Transition

The reason I initially sought Alma’s help about two years ago was that I knew I needed to fix my resume. I had a resume focused on my nursing experience, detailing my work in intensive care and the ventilators I operated, none of which would be practical for a new role. Looking back, I realize I was naïve to think I could transition into real estate without a clear plan.

During our first meeting, Alma helped me understand that before tackling my résumé, I needed to figure out where I wanted to work. She guided me to research different roles within the real estate industry, which was crucial for identifying the skills and attributes I needed to highlight on my résumé. Alma guided me on how to conduct an exploratory interview, and I believe my preparation for that interview instilled confidence in my contact, leading to further introductions within the team that eventually helped me secure my job.

I remember feeling overwhelmed by the amount of homework she assigned, but her vibrant positivity and encouragement made it manageable.
